The Michigan State Police has decided that if its drunken driver crackdown worked before/during and after St. Patrick’s Day, then it’ll fly for the finals of the NCAA basketball tournament.
Accordingly, more than 160 law agencies in 26 counties will continue drunken driving enforcement through April 2, with overtime being paid with federal funds administered through the Office of Highway Safety Planning, a division of the MSP.
Last year, between March 15 and April 4, police arrested 2,215 people for drunken driving, with 613 registering a blood alcohol content of .17 or higher.
